Urinetown, the Musical
by Peng Hong - Wednesday, 11 March 2009, 02:55 PM

Shannon Center For Performing Arts
Wednesday March 11, 2009-Saturday March 14, 2009 8 p.m. Sunday March 15, 2009 2:00 p.m.

In grim Gotham-like city of the future, a 20-year drought has occurred. As a result, the government has banned private toiletries and the citizens must use pay-to-pee toilets regulated by a monopolistic company, the Urine Good Company, which charges exorbitant prices. Bobby Strong, the assistant custodian at the poorest urinal in town, decides enough is enough. With the help of the daughter of the CEO of the Urine Good Company, Hope Cladwell, Bobby ends up leading a rebellion which frees the citizens.

Urinetown is an American award-winning satirical comedy musical that pokes fun at capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and petty small town politics. Urinetown rejects musical theatre convention, parodying successful Broadway shows such as Les Misérables, Evita, Annie, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, and even satirizes its own significance. In reverse pantomime style, the unconventional plotline shatters audience expectations of a pleasant ending.

The show was directed by Tony Award winner John Rando, and features music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis. It debuted at the New York International Fringe Festival, was produced Off-Broadway at the American Theatre for Actors and then moved to Broadway, opening at Henry Miller's Theatre on September 20, 2001. It ran on Broadway through January 18, 2004, closing with a total of 25 previews and 965 performances.

You should already have taken the exam before the fall semester began. If you haven't, please go to the Mathematics Placement Exam page at your earliest convenience to read more and take the exam.

All other students: If for some reason you never took the old multi-part math placement exam, or if you took it but did not pass it, then you'll need to take this exam at your earliest convenience. Please go to the Mathematics Placement Exam page to read more and take the exam.
