Western Art is part of a series of courses designed to survey the historical development of painting, sculpture, architecture, and related art forms created by Western and non-Western cultures and civilizations from prehistoric times through the 14th century. Course discussions include the visual arts of Prehistoric and Neolithic peoples, Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient Rome, early Christian-Byzantine, Medieval Europe, and the early Renaissance. Emphasis is placed on integrating the development of art forms with the geographic, social, political, philosophical, and religious characteristics of these cultures.
