This course is designed to introduce you to the core concepts of
social psychology. Social psychology is the scientific study of how
the presence of other people can affect the way that we think,
feel, and behave. This broad definition will lead us to learn about
topics that can be observed and applied in almost every aspect of
our everyday lives, such as the self, social cognition, attitudes,
conformity, stereotyping and prejudice, and
relationships/attraction.
This course will cover an overview of both basic and applied research in social psychology. Throughout the course of the semester, you will be asked to master a lot of complex material. It is a challenging course, but will yield a lot of real world application. We will pose questions that may change the way you view you interactions with others, and your preconceived notions of how people work. It is a goal of this course to provide you with new ways of understanding yourself and others.
