This course is designed to introduce you to the core concepts of
emotions and motivation. This course will look at the study of how
the our cognitive and biological systems influence the way that we
feel and how those feelings influence how we move forward in our
lives. These broad ideas will lead us to learn about topics that
can be observed and applied in almost every aspect of our everyday
lives, such as the self, cognition, attitudes and moods,
relationships, and social interactions.
This course will cover an overview of both basic and applied concepts and research in emotions and motivation psychology. Throughout the course of the semester, you will be asked to master a lot of complex material. It is a challenging course, but will yield a lot of real world application. We will pose questions that may change the way you view your emotions and the way that they color your interactions with others, and your preconceived notions of how people work. It is a goal of this course to provide you with new ways of understanding yourself and others.
