In June 2007 President Herzberger joined her colleagues throughout the nation in signing the American College & University President Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). This important initiative aims to “exercise leadership in [our] communities and throughout society by modeling ways to minimize global warming emissions, and by providing the knowledge and the educated graduates to achieve climate neutrality.”

The ACUPCC stipulates that by September 2008, participating institutions must create a structure to develop and implement the plan to reach climate neutrality, and also complete a comprehensive inventory of all greenhouse gas emissions that will be updated every other year.

Whittier College's President’s Climate Commitment Task Force (CCTF) will oversee these efforts during the coming academic year. (This group is NOT charged with developing the College’s plan to reach carbon neutrality, which will come later, based on this early work.) It is comprised faculty, students, and administrative representatives, and possibly alumni.  Executive Assistant to the President Kristin Wiberg is the Task Force facilitator.
