This course will center around the topic of housing and homelessness in Los Angeles. We will look at housing policies that have been enacted in Los Angeles and how this impacts the people. There will also be a focus on quantitative data illustrating housing and homelessness. The readings for the course will center on journal articles, book excerpts, and government reports. The readings will cover several topics that intersect with housing and homelessness. Including methodologies for researching homelessness, laws/legislation, reproductive rights, Skid Row, gentrification, hunger, space, cost of living, and affordable housing. There will also be discussions of acts of resistance and resilience among those who are housing insecure.
